Reviews Artist: The Pocket GodsTitle: Broken Bisuits Label: Nub Country The Pocket Gods is a quartet of nuts who, from the sound of things, exuberantly love rock music in all its permutations. They released their first proper CD, “sandringtonsput,” in 2006, and have released a single, “Night Lights” in early 2007. BROKEN BISCUITS, their new release, is an EP, which I think is a trend (more frequent, smaller releases as opposed to a great glop of songs every year or two) we will see more from other bands as the CD format continues its gradual demise. That being said, BROKEN BISCUITS will only whet your appetite for more Pocket Gods. Influenced by everything to AC/DC to The Hullabaloos to the Velvet Underground to the Bonzo Dog Band, sometimes in the same song, Broken Biscuits hits heavy metal (“Apathetic Bluesman”), punk rock via Johnny Thunders (“Telstar Gurl”), and pop via The Monkees (“Oily Smooth Penetration”). The title track is an armpit fart, not unlike something the Bonzo Dog Band or Syd Barrett would have been proud of, but at least it’s short. The other three tracks on BROKEN BISCUITS are good enough, however, to more than make up for it. And then some. The Pocket Gods do not appear to take themselves too seriously, so we can hope that future releases from the band will have the same loose and playful atmosphere of BROKEN BISCUITS. Now…some increased frequency of releases would be nice… User reviews There are no user reviews for this item. Add new review Powered by jReviews |
