DJ Hardware

Reviews

Artist DJ Hardware, Marcelo Castelli
Title Tribalism 2.0
Label Regress/Pure Music

First I must admit, I don’t really care for Techno except when I working out. So my review of this album is simply from that point of view, would I pump this while I’m pumping iron? The answer is yes.

Tribalism 2.0 is a double disc set with loads of energy. Just listening to it makes me want to get up and start doing Pilates, and that’s saying something. Marcelo Castelli creates the first disc and throws out some great beats with songs like Thanks God, Sail with Me, and Silence. Thanks God starts off with a blast and continues with a beat that’s easy to get moving to. Just when you get used to the hypnotic flow it slows down and steadies and then punches at the end, giving me time to take a breather before I do the remainder of my run. Sail with Me takes off where Thanks God left behind and Silence has a unique blend of sounds that just makes your body want to move.

It’s no surprise that the first disc is so good. Castelli has a long rap sheet of being a very talented artist. He started his career, as a DJ, in a club called Graffiti, one of the first of it’s kind, in 1987. In 1992 he started to compose his own tracks and in 1994 he released his first CD, and hasn’t stopped signing deals with labels since. In 2003 he went on a world tour, visiting 4 continents and over 20 countries and his remix of Los Tangueros for Bajo Fondo reached number 2 in the Billboard Club Play chart. Currently Castelli has more than 100 original tracks and more than 30 records. So many records in fact that he’s now deemed by many as the South American Maestro, and not only is he still DJing but other DJ’s are now playing his tracks all around the world.

The second disc created by DJ Hardware isn’t too bad either. Silhouette is my favorite from both discs. It offers up lots of fire and awesome beats. Headbound Champion Sound is faster than a cheetah on speed, with little swirls of sounds that compliment the viciousness of the rest of it.

DJ Hardware doesn’t have quite the history that Castelli has but he’s been around too. Hardware has released 20 mixed DJ compilations and sold over a quarter of a million products.

There’s not much bad to say about this 2 disc pack. There are times where it seems the same sound is repeating over and over and over again, but then again isn’t that a part of Techno?
