Reviews Artist: Scenes from A MovieTitle: The Pulse Label: One Big Spark “No misleading phrases are the bricks that we pave with. And oh we just want to burn at a brighter Orange than all the fires built before us. You know we’ll set this off” -- Taken from the first track, Just Ask Us, off of Scenes From a Movie's debut album The Pulse. These West Virginia pop-punkers have a hypnotizing flair for the dramatic. Their band name is an obvious clue as to what these flashy gentlemen are all about. Highs to lows to jaw dropping dangerous- “I bet your kiss tastes like poison but it keeps all the boys on the street oh so interested and weak yeah.” taken from Irukandji. The album talks a lot about girls which has long been the hot topic in music, with the Beastie Boys saying it best, “Girls, all I really want is…girls!” But the album discusses much more than girls as Bush once said, “Most of the lyrics aren’t totally literal to something that happened to me, but they are inspired by something that did” -- a real life album for a real life audience. These young superstars recorded The Pulse with Mark McCluskey (Hit the lights and Powerspace) and Mike Green (The Matches and Paramore), and while growing up were inspired by bands like: Metallica, NOFX, Black Flag, The Ataris, and Green Day. The band features: Tony Bush on vocals, Jon Ewing on guitar, Jared Miller on drums, Luke Del Papa on guitar, and Adam Triplett on bass. The band is full of energy and enthusiasm, but unfortunately lack a bit in originality. If you like bands like Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy, then Scenes from a Movie is something that you would definitely want to purchase. I would love to catch this band live! If the album can get me up, singing, and in a lighter and brighter mood, then a show could really put someone on an exciting ride. Highly recommended.
