Artist: Flight of the Conchords
Title: Flight of the Conchords
Label: Sub Pop
The Grammy award winning Flight of the Conchords bridge the gap between seasons of their acclaimed HBO series with their debut full length album. Jemaine and Bret state the obvious, the uncomfortable and the absurd. They drop rhymes as the mother flippin' Hiphopopotamus and the Rhymenoceros and possess sharp, self-deprecating senses of humor.

The album is largely composed of fully fleshed out versions of songs heard throughout their HBO show. They sing of girls so beautiful they could be part-time models (The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room), their stoner friend Dave (The Prince of Parties), and attempting to get down and dirty on a Wednesday night (Business Time). I'm sure David Bowie would love to know that the Conchords place him in space transmitting signals from his nipple antennae in Bowie.

In the distant future, the year 2000, humans are dead and robotic beings rule the world. It is not quite clear how this happened suffice to say “they used poisonous gases, and poisoned our asses.” It is true that the binary solo in Robots may blow your mathematical mind.

The album is solid throughout as the Conchords tackle a variety of musical styles with relative ease. This album is great for fans new to the band, or fans of the show who want all the songs in one place. However, for die hard fans of the show there really is nothing new here that hasn't appeared on the show. But don't fret, these songs provide undoubtedly great entertainment and before you know it season two of their show will be here with a whole new batch of songs to enjoy.
