Reviews Artist: Badbob and JimmyTitle: Posted Places Label: BB&J My wife and I were driving through South Louisiana several years ago when she asked me about signs that said “POSTED” which were hanging on intervals at trees. I advised her that the signs marked private property and told hunters not to trespass, hunt, or the like. If you needed that explanation, you’re not going to get POSTED PLACES by Badbob & Jimmy. If you knew what it meant from the getgo, you’ll understand POSTED PLACES, but not necessarily like it. Me? I wanted to open a vein. POSTED PLACES is a one-trick pony, with the paint in question being illegal hunting, presented by Badbob & Jimmy, the brainchild of Kevin Blake Weldon. It’s thirty minutes worth of song parodies and skits dealing with such practices as spotlighting, trespassing, hunting out of season, poaching and the like. It ends with Weldon’s disclaimer, urging folks to obey hunting laws and property restrictions. It’s amusing for the first couple of minutes. I should note that I’m not a hunter, but I support hunter’s rights (animals have rights, including the right to fry in oil and butter), so please don’t think that my opinion regarding POSTED PLACES is colored by my attitudes toward deer hunting, and the good folks who practice it. If anything --- and I’m still not clear on this --- it almost seems in places as if Weldon is mocking his audience by accenting the stereotypes with which hunters are burdened just a bit too heavily. The humor as such is strained; “Posted Places” is a parody of Garth Brooks’ “Posted Places” and…well, you get the idea. POSTED PLACES is not what you want to give your favorite deer hunter. It might get played, once, but not all the way through, and will more likely than not wind up on the floor of the cab. That is, if it’s not put in the skeet pile. Pull!
