Reviews Artist: Criss AngelTitle: System Three in the Trilogy Label: APITRAG Records Moving on to number 3 in the Trilogy, this album is VERY percussion and electronica driven. No matter how the sound was achieved, it’s total trance electronica mixed with hip hop that once again is more of a stand alone album. You can tell it’s the background music for a magic performance, but that’s more because by now you know what the music is used for. Loads of creature noises and moans emphasize the darker side Criss Angel’s magic takes. Probably the best track is “Revelation,” with an impassioned vocal by Angel and snippets of various songs that have shown up on earlier albums. It also basically brings the “story” started on System 1 to a close. With the last two tracks, “Disintegration” and “Epilogue.” There are an additional 4 bonus tracks on this album as well as 4 bonus tracks on “System 2” and 2 bonus tracks on “System 1.” Overall, to get the full effect, it’s worth it to get the entire “System Trilogy,” because even though they’re stand alone albums there are numerous ties between the 3 CDs. There’s also a full story being told and the Trilogy is done well enough that you can follow along even without the visuals. In addition to the “System Trilogy,” the soundtrack for “Criss Angel – MINDFREAK” is available and was previously reviewed in the October Issue of music-reviewer.com. All of the songs on the “Mindfreak” album were previously released in the “System Trilogy,” but the best songs are the ones that made it to this show and it’s soundtrack. I can’t guarantee if you’re a fan of a certain genre that you’ll be happy with this set, especially since every album is a mix of different genres. If you’re looking for something fresh and new, these would be an excellent choice. It may take more than one listen, but the albums are interesting and you catch on to more things every time you hear any one of them. The whole series is on my recommend list!
