Reviews Artist: SsionTitle: Fools Gold Label: Sleazetone I don’t mean to sound like an ultra-conservative of the fundamentalist persuasion at a Rainbow fundraiser- it’s just that that is exactly what Ssion’s Fools Gold is… some sleazy, homosexual shit. I like it. It makes me feel greasy and queer-ish, but I won’t hold that against the album. Certainly, that is one major thing going for this album of catchy, gay, disco pop. Fools Gold tends to make you feel a little excited; like after you beat a level in Super Contra and gander upon the glistening muscles of your super-soldier avatar going “fuck yeah” while he pumps his pixilated AK-47 high in the air. You know!? That kind of excitement. The album is chockfull of songs that sound as if they belong to a Madonna disc, circa 1985. The instrumentation is really synthesized and cheap/tinny by today’s standards. I think that sort of adds a little rubber soul to the seedy proceedings. That’s good since the delivery of lyrics are done in a really off-handed, fuck it fashion. This vocal component almost put me off except for the fact that the singer’s voice, accompanied by the faggiest choir ever, was just really intriguing; kind of like a sexually ambiguous sewer rat named Rocko. I’m a straight-I get it. I’m supposed to be fascinated by this odd fanfare. But, truthfully, it’s more than that. Ssion’s Fools Gold is like an audible loogey dropped from a mall balcony by really skanky chicks hanging outside DEB. It gets in your hair and under your skin obviously, but it’s a ballsy course of action that you got to respect. Or not. I don’t think I made my point well here. Tracks for you to consider are Clown, Street Jizz (with the most colorful chorus I’ve heard in a while), Bullshit, and Heaven. User reviews There are no user reviews for this item.
