Artist: Funky Green Dogs
Title: Super California
Label: MCA Records
If you enjoy the electronic beats, soulful singing and catchy hooks that make up techno music then you might enjoy this album. The Funky Green Dogs don't bring anything different or unique to the club scene. In fact they are rather mediocre compared to other bands out right now. Their sound is somewhat immature and is repetitive in almost all of the tracks. The writing is basic and is presented in an overdramatic shrill that's supposed to be singing. Considering the fact that no one really pays any attention to the words anyway, this is something that can be overlooked but the overall quality of this album is poor.

"You Got Me Burnin' Up" (DJ Asle Radio Edit) starts off the album with it's fast paced, thumping beats and contagious lyrics. Even though the song as a whole sucks you can't help but to keep listening. As is the same for "Be A Part Of My Life" and "Pain". The songs are almost hypnotic and mesmerizing make you move in a spellbinding trance. "Remember" is by far the best track on the album. It's much easier to listen to and the singing is bearable. The writing is still bad but the song in it's entirety is just better.

The Funky Green Dogs should have another go at this album and this time just take it slow. There is a rushed, incomplete feel to it that circulates through the album. The writing could be better as could the beats. If they truly want to stand out and be heard these improvements need to be made because right now they're at the bottom of the barrel. Success takes time to achieve and I hope for the Funky Green Dogs that is time well spent.
