Reviews Artist: BrokeTitle: A Clear Perspective of Nothing Label: Rotten Records Broke’s so out of their minds you almost have to take them seriously for fear of missing something completely brilliant… how’s that go, with those writers of a “disturbed” nature, and something to do with Warhol… Okay, boys and girls, let’s first set upon “Sourcrotch” then cover your ears, for it goes from bad, to worse, to ugly before self-destructing all over itself in a puddle of blood and semen. Without going into great detail, “great” inasmuch as we can climb one or another verse and not miss much of the next X-rated episode, a tune like “Dead Girls” who “don’t say no,” or “Erection Day,” red”erect”ed frustration made to order for the sidewalk psycho looking for the inevitable bend over. “Dead Alive” is a tricky one since its printed with sick-headed, doped down lyrics that disappear into oblivion during the two minute playback; Unfortunate too, since they’re as much fun to read as they are to listen to… not exactly yer average, “Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight,” but eerily enough, we’re not too far off—there’s still an undeniable rigidity behind the mask of defiance going on here. Yeah there’s the obvious comparison to the Skinlab’s and Slipknot’s, everyone’s favorite Midwestern face painting freaks at the cusp of noise-for-art-for-fuck’s sake loud rock; and a faint cry toward distant Pantera, particularly where slammin’ riffs and blast beats are concerned; Yeah, we can go in a newer, bolder direction but they been away a while and no denying they were the shit when the gates swung open last decade. “A Clear Perspective Of Nothing” is an identifiable though acquired taste that’s a low-grounded and loud near Death experience with the occasional hook, scream/whisper/rap vox underlying the sinister, schizophrenic mood and groove-core slam made for the shallow end of the cerebral pool.
