Artist: T. Bubba
Title: I'm Confused
Label: MCA Nashville
When I first saw the T. Bubba CD, I was definitely surprised. Actually, surprised would be an understatement. Being that I have never heard of the guy, I envisioned him to be some new rapper from the south. (I was probably picturing Bubba Sparks, Timbaland's newest rap find.) Nonetheless, it didn't take long for me to realize how far I was from being right. First of all, T. Bubba is a comedian. Also, he is a white male, near-middle-age, and overweight. Hey, at least I got the southerner part right.

I suppose I was slightly disappointed, and as a result, had put off listening to the CD for as long as possible. As the end of November drew near, I finally opened it, and expected not to laugh. (That's the attitude!) Again, T. Bubba surprised me. Even though it took up until the third track, "Diet," before I stifled a laugh, T. Bubba had me snickering more often afterwards.

In the 1-hour CD, Bubba discusses his appearance, the southern states, politics, and people. According to Bubba, southerners seem to get away with saying what they please, be it nice or mean, as long as it is followed by the words, "Bless your heart." Since it is a stand-up act, delivery is everything, and Bubba does a good job of relaying stories to the audience. Later in the CD, in "Southern Politics," and "Bubba Jr. & Little Bubba," it's amusing how Bubba uses the recurring "Bless your heart" after downing Gore, Clinton, strangers, and even family members.

My personal favorites in the CD were "The Igmos," and the title track, "I'm Confused." What does this say about me? Basically, that I like hearing about how stupid people can be. The term "Igmos," a shortened version of "Ignorant Morons," applied quite well to the subjects of Bubba's comedy, most of whom were fast food clerks. A similar track was "I'm Confused," which concentrated on dumb things people say. For example, there's the sign that says, "Open 7 days a week, including weekends," and the commercial that begins, "If you have been the victim of a wrongful death…"
All in all, the CD just got better as it went on, and I continuously gained respect for T. Bubba. Still, I'd like to see more variety in his topics; therefore I think that the CD is deserving of a 3.5.
