That huge video screen helped make the events on stage more visible for those of us who did not have seats right up front. In a large venue like a stadium, it's hard to get any kind of intimate feeling if you're not one of the lucky few within twenty feet of the stage. The screen helped bring it a little closer to the rest of us. Taking this a step further, the band performed their own rendition of "Sweet Caroline" with the words shown on the screen karaoke style. This was a surprise that had the fans chuckling as they screamed out the words to the song. During "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me," images of bats, with Bono’s cartoon head, were projected onto the screen - very similar to the video for this particular tune. The song had an eerie quality to it that gave me shivers! | ![]() |
![]() | Although "U2" performed many songs from "POP," their latest release, they also included many of their previous hits. Everyone sang along to "I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For" and "With or Without You." It amazes me that you can get an entire stadium together singing one song. During "U2's" rendition of "Bullet the Blue Sky," blue laser lights were projected into the sky in beams to form the shape of a bullet. My companion at the concert summed up the effect by saying, "Cool!" It was a great effect that gave the song even more punch. |
The band left the stage halfway through the concert, and at this point the giant mirrored lemon came into play. The huge lemon moved from the side of the stage out to the center. The lights reflected off the spinning orb and bathed the entire stadium in strobe light. Then it opened revealing the band inside, separated by fluorescent light tubes. Stairs were moved to the lemon, and "U2" descended and began to play "Discotheque" to the delight of the crowd. I thought that this was one of the best parts of the entire concert . The strobe lights washed over the audience, and created the feeling of being in a disco. | ![]() |
