As of April 9, 1997, the band "Stone Temple Pilots" has officially broken up. More details as they become available.
The "DESCENDENTS" Live In Concert!
The "DESCENDENTS," live concert in Tempe, AZ on 4/10/97. Since the "DESCENDENTS" are nearing the end of their U.S. tour after four months on the road, if you didn't get to see them you missed a hell of a show, and if you did, I'm sure you had a great time! I caught up with Milo after the show, and he's every bit as nice and informative, even after almost 90 minutes of non-stop speed punk, as he was in the interview we had in the January issue of AMZ. The show itself was totally great. The enegy expended on that stage was enough to power a small city, and the band barely took a break to catch a breath between songs. The moshe pit was the wildest I've ever seen, and Milo wants to be with the fans, so he made several sojourns into the crowd - much to the chagrin of security. Still, everyone had a great time, including the band. Milo told me he had more fun at this particular show than he'd had in practically the whole tour. There was no doubt the fans were into it to.
I know I promised live pictures, but Murphy's law was in full force that night. Our photo pass was missing when we arrived, and after 45 minutes trying to find the DESCENDENTS tour manager, Claire (one very nice and helpful lady I might add), with photo pass in hand and a Security escort, the camera jammed and we didn't get any pics. Such is the way it goes at concerts! Anyhow, I still highly recommend the latest release from the DESCENDENTS, "Everything Sucks," which has some really great songs that were included on the play list, and they played a lot of their old songs too. The crowd was ecstatic, singing along, answering back, etc. and the sold-out club date was a raging success. If you get the opportunity to catch this band live, it's definitely worth the price of the ticket!
Another One Bites The Dust!
As of this past week (April 6-12, 1997) the word is out that "Soundgarden" has also gone their separate ways. From the Seattle Post Intelligencer as printed in the St. Petersburg Times on 4/11/97,
excerpt:
"While the breakup was a surprise to many, the writing had been on the wall for some time. Relations among group members reportedly were strained. During last summer's Lollapalooza tour, band memebers were taking separate flights and meeting at the gigs. A few performances, insiders say, were interrupted by onstage spats that saw some members walk off in mid-performance. And it was recently rumored that bassist Ben Shepherd had joined another band, Devilhead."
"Talk of a breakup brewed for weeks but few fans believed there was any truth to it, so the group's decision to disband was greeted with shock and regret.
Band members are likely to resurface in other bands, or as solo performers."
And Another One Does!
Rumors are flying that "Sepultura" is also on the skids because of a difference of opinion among the Band Members about changing their manager - from Max's wife to someone else. Word is Max is leaving the Band, and I contacted their label directly to verify if this IS just a rumor. Here is their reply:
"Everything you heard about SEPULTURA is true. RR cannot comment any further on what is going on between them since we will work with SEPULTURA, who are continuing without Max, and we will work with Max and whatever project he does. Check on-line, or look in magazines where they
have spoken to the press. We are not scheduling interviews about this. The band has done this on their own and through their lawyers, and Max through Gloria."
