"ACCESS to the MUSIC ZONE"

Dear Reader,

This month we will follow the growth of an Indie label from it's inception to where it is today - 10 years later. PROJEKT Records' founder, Sam Rosenthal, produced his first release, "the rope" (black tape for a blue girl's debut), literally from his bedroom! Today, representing anywhere from 12 to 20 artists with over 70 releases, the label is now located in a new office in the LOOP section of downtown Chicago with ten staff members including Sam. In addition to the story, look for the interview with Sam, and reviews of some of PROJEKT's most promising artists.

"black tape for a blue girl" is actually Sam Rosenthal and various musicians who have accompanied him on his journey as a solo instrumentalist to a loosely organized group that just released it's sixth album in 1996. "LYCIA" signed with PROJEKT in 1991, bringing their moody, reflective, goth type music to the label, while "Love Spirals Downwards" signed on in 1992 with the duo's ambient, ethereal, New Age sound adding to the list of PROJEKT artists.

Staff writer Robert Lewis is in the midst of a large Internet related project, so this month'sWorld Beat column falls to me and the new Celtic releases from Windham hill. Bob will be back next month with more World Beat variety. This month also includes a review of the new release from "Nerf Herder" (Not a lot of new music this month - even musicians take some time off once in a while!), and Late Breaking News Flashes from "Love In Reverse," "Machine Head," "Bennet" and "Coal Chamber."

As always, we'd love some reader feedback, so please send your comments, questions, or anything else you can think of to ACCESS to the MUSIC ZONE at marellg@doitnow.com

In next month's issue our Feature Artist will be "Machine Head," with lots of info on their highly anticipated sophmore release, and an interview with guitarist Logan Mader. Also, live interviews with "Type O Negative" and "Drain," along with concert coverage and live photos of both; an interview with "Karma to Burn;" concert coverage, photos and an interview with "Protein;" new music from "Puller," "Coal Chamber," "Bennet," "The Moon Seven Times" and "Fuego Del Alma;" and last but not least, new columns on "Outstading Music Link" and "Classic Rock." Lots going on next month!

In the mean time, see you in Cyber Space!
