Reviews Artist: Bob BurgerTitle: Surprise Party Label: Phantom Power Productions I can’t say I had high expectations when picking up Surprise Party, the first CD by a relatively unknown Bob Burger. No surprises here; a complete waste of an hour. Well, maybe not a complete waste, but pretty close. This Tom Petty “wanna be” has many songs that echo Learning To Fly (only not as good or catchy). Whether intentionally or not, his voice and construction of melodies bring Petty to mind. Say Hello to Goodbye, is a flagrant example and arguably the best song on the album, although maybe that’s not saying much on an album loaded with duds. Almost Doesn’t Count kicks off the album with a mysterious clash of electric and acoustic guitar with Burger’s raw voice. One of Ours sounds like the backdrop of an episode of One Tree Hill or The OC. Is that a compliment? I’ll let you decide. In a way, I almost feel bad for Burger. It’s almost like he’s fifteen years too late, with a soft rock sound that would have thrived with the one hit wonders of the 90s. Fairground, Crashing Down and Need to Bleed make me feel like I entered a time warp back to 1995. This raw, folk rocker just doesn’t make the cut for me. With a song like Sleep of the Wicked, with ridiculous talking in the background scattered throughout intermittently, it’s hard for me to recover. I can’t be so harsh on Burger, however. I must admit, I half-like some songs. There’s just something missing for me to give them the full thumbs up. Burger is going need to come up with something special next time around if he wants a career in music, otherwise he may end up flipping burgers. He plays a mean acoustic guitar though, I’ll give him that. User reviews

suprise party bob burger, Tuesday, 03 June 2008 Written by saul flance I'm not sure you know this, but surprise party is definitely not the first bob burger album. I know you are writing a review of the album, but you should at least touch on the career of bob burger as well, and who was featured on the album! The CD features renowned players including Jimmy Leahey (John Waite), PK Lavengood (John Eddie), Bobby Bandiera (Bon Jovi, Asbury Jukes, Bruce Springsteen), Joe Bellia (Asbury Jukes), Jerry Gaskill (King’s X), Rob Tanico (Highway 9) and Plink Giglio (Glen Burtnik) just to name a few. He has written, and won a grammy, for styx, as well. He is so well respected in the Jersey shore scene and has played with bruce springsteen, jon bon jovi, and southside johnny. On labor day weekend, 2007, he was the band at Bon Jovi's house party. HMMMM..... that's kinda big.... Oh do you know who took the stage with him, since you know his music is garbage in your opinion? Bon jovi, Jimmy Buffet, Billie Joel and yes, Sir Paul McCartney. That was probably the most surreal moment of his life!!!!! Not only is Bob a musician, he is also an attorney and computer analyst. So, i dont think if his music career dosent take off he will be flipping too many burgers like you will be doing if your review carrer does not make it, witch i dont think will. Bob is not only a great singer song writer but is an amazing live performer! He puts is whole heart in all he does, and if you see him live, I'm sure your opinion will change!!!! your friend saul
