As a general rule, if it's not hard, heavy and hate-ridden it's not allowed in my house. Much to my delight, "Will Haven's" latest offering, "WHVN," holds up their end with aplomb. Chock full of in your face guitar and bass, what's it to ya drum tracks and smootch my booty angst ridden lyrics, it's a tough cookie to pass up.

Although not my normal cup of tea for a quiet Sunday afternoon, much props go to Grady Avenell and Co. for one tight CD, which definately falls into my mood music category. Unfortunately, it is also an either loved it or hated it CD. There is no middle ground with this thrashing metal sound.

Heavy on bass and drums, the music itself knocks your senses flat and takes you on a wild head slammin' ride that is good to the last drop. There is no wimping out allowed. All the tracks are high intensity with nary a toe tapper in the bunch. It makes me wish for my own personal mosh pit in my living room.

Grady Avenell goes way deep down into his guts for his vocals and delivers them with a perfect blend of rage and worldy distain on tracks such as "Fresno" and "If She Could Speak." But, truly the bright red cherry on top of this musical sundae is "Miguel Abburido," which was my fave. With slower lyrics, but a still powerfully rocking beat, it was the song I couldn't get out of my head all day after listening to the CD.

While all tracks (with the exception of the sign off which brings back tv memories of my childhood) are airworthy I have yet to meet a program director with enough testicular fortitiude to air them (maybe one day, if I pray hard enough and am a good girl...). That is a shame, because with songs like "Dallass Drake," "Muse" and "I've Seen My Fate," they could be all up and down the dial.

"Will Haven" is truly a band for hard core fans of heavy grinding metal and not intended for use by novices. But, on the upswing of things, it's guaranteed to make the ears of parents around the world bleed and their nerves fray to nothing. "WHVD" is at the top of the Santa's Stocking Stuffer list for the headbanger in your life.
