So, is it safe to wonder just how a "Mojo"
might rise, considering the fact that it's stuck? Atlanta's "Stuck
Mojo" proves they're in no way, shape, or form stuck in
any one particular gear on this dramatic display of gut-wrenching
Rap-Core Metal in front of a packed closet full of enthused onlookers
hanging on every note that grinds out of the speakers.
As far as live recordings go, this one
is almost too clean - a testament to modern day production technology
perhaps, but there's little doubt they poured their heart and
soul into this tightly structured performance. The seventeen
tracks cover everything you've grown to love and/or loathe during
the band's progression from angry to downright pissed off. "Crooked
Figurehead" leads an assault on our most exalted elected
official, the posterboy for poor judgment preparing for his final
run downstream. Wwo songs later, "Rising" raises the
roof and probably more than just a crowd rider or two.
Never a big fan of these groups that arrive
all too frequently with some sort of critical message for the
masses, while tending to stagnate in their own self-indulgence,
and while the jury's still out on these guys, I'll admit there
is a certain vibe they possess that says they got more going
for 'em. "Not Promised Tomorrow" goes over well, as
the band and audience share their sentiments on future uncertainty.
As these things usually go, a good song that clocks in and out
way too quickly.
Two new studio tracks find their way to
the conclusion of the show, which ends with the explosive (hey
if it's there, why not use it, right?) "Pipebomb" -
they being "Reborn" and "My Will," both creatively
accessible without abandoning the strength and persistence "Stuck
Mojo's" been built upon. |
