"Somewhere Lost In Time?" How
about 1986 maybe? Yes Danny Danzi is a throwback to the days
when rock music was created less for the sake of verbal abuse
and more for the heartfelt emotion that materialized under good
intentions, making the most of life while leaving the bitchfests
to the then yet undiscovered crybabies. Danzi's a jack-of-all-trades
here, finally catching a break after ten years in the wake of
similarly melodic-minded acts as Cinderella, Britny Fox and,
oh yeah, now I hear it, Gary Moore! That is before the scruffy
Irishman got all soft on us following "After The War."
Yes there's a definite resemblance, particularly where the vocal
tracks come in, but Danzi's no slouch on the six-string either.
The songs on "Somewhere Lost In Time"
do grow predictable after a while, and many can stand improvement.
"Lost Without Your Love" and "Love Me Or Leave
Me," this type of stuff is fairly one-dimensional. Danzi's
a true musician perhaps a little out of his element writing such
simplistic songs, but does have the skill to go that extra mile,
where someone else might satisfy themselves with that cyclic
three minute formula-stay tuned for the closing instrumental
where he really pops his cork! But, the one man show steps away
from the rest of the three chord, crimp and curl junkies. "Somewhere
Lost In Time" as a song is a defining moment for the album,
characterized by a slowly building crescendo after a light beginning,
a dynamic power-ballad that shines among the others.
A solid rock album that embraces plenty
of melodic punch and tight rhythms with instrumental clarity,
"Somewhere Lost In Time" is a well-intended first effort
molded from the better of the AOR rock and pop metal the last
decade had to offer, whose biggest flaw might stem from the fact
it was created in the context of a good mood. |
