First thing's first. I LOVE Christmas music! It's my favorite part of the Yuletide season, and I look forward to the time when I can start playing it without getting funny looks from the neighbors.

Every year I find myself looking for at least one new bit of music to add to my Christmas collection. In the past it was the "Very Special Christmas compilations, or the "Twisted Christmas" music of "Bob Rivers." Even a "Tales From The Crypt" Christmas album. I have very eclectic tastes, but I'm basically quite harmless. This year's pick is something completely different for me. I've gotten into the whole swing music thing and decided that this year it was time for a "Squirrel Nut Zippers" Christmas. I'm glad I did, because I love it!

Warning: if you're not into swing or anything at all jazzy, and only like traditional Christmas carol-type stuff, don't pick this one up. But if you're feeling adventurous, and want something different to add to your collection, grab this CD and run home with it right away. Put it on and prepare for something slightly different from the traditional fare. Strings, horns, and jazzy vocals, both male and female, will fill your room and create a great holiday atmosphere. There are some traditional songs on this CD, including "Sleigh Ride," but each is done with the distinctive Zipper's sound. The new music is fun, and some of it slightly folk-y - "Gift of the Magi" for instance. "Hot Christmas" is a really swinging tune to trim your tree to.

All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with my new Christmas music this season. I look forward to driving the neighbors crazy until well into the new year. Give it a listen, and see what you think. You just might have a good time with it.
