This is one of the more enjoyable Christmas albums I've gotten to listen to over the past few years. It is jazzy, yet maintains the spirit of the season. Many of the songs are religious carols, which do tend to evoke reverence rather than syncopation. "Hiroshima's" rendition of "Silent Night" did take a different approach, after a beautiful opening solo, and is a definite keeper. The underlying music was reverent yet innovative.

"David Benoit" appears with "Tim Wiesberg" on a more spirited medley called "Seasoned Greetings," and "Todd Cochran" did a nice keyboard number called "Colour Naturelle" that captured the holiday jazz spirit.

Jazz and blues diva "Etta James" does "This Christmas" in her own inimitable way, and also has her own Christmas album out on the WH Jazz label (see review). "Ricky Peterson" (who sounds a lot like Harry Connick Jr.) does "A Child Is Born" in a bluesy/jazz way. "Lani Hall," accompanied by the harp play of "Corky Hale," does a very beautiful rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." Another of the more innovative cuts on this album comes courtesy of "Earl Klugh." as he take the traditional carol "We Three Kings" and gives it a very modern sound on his keyboards.

"Ray Obeido" joins the "Braxton Brothers" on the opening cut, to give us "The Christmas Song." I think "Mel Torme" would love this version of his song. Jazz up your Christmas spirit with this album.
