Immerse your imagination, let the music wash over you. Drown in delight as Maire's music takes you on a voyage on a sea of Gaelic grace. Her latest solo effort is soft-spoken and breaks upon the ears like the gentle surf upon a sandy beach. Each wave etches its own mark upon the shore of your senses. Get your feet wet as "Follow The Word" begins an incoming tide of aural elegance. Combining the traditional sounds of Celtic music with guitar melodies reminiscent of Russ Freeman to create an eclectic mix, this album expands Maire's music beyond simple balladry to imaginative orchestration. The effect is to soften the impact of the music and allow the beauty of the language to be felt to its fullest. Maire even engages in the equivalent of a Gaelic "scat," something she says her audiences love, and which adds her voice as an instrument to the mix.

Cuts like "To The Water" use the sound of a voice lost in a large room to make you reach for each word and make a simple message more heartfelt. Maire's reverence for life and God are impressed upon you without preaching, allowing you to take what you will from it. As Maire says in the title track, "Change the words, don't change the meaning."

Surely the cut that will leave the greatest impression is "Peacemaker," which features the spoken innocence of Maire's son Patrick reciting a simple Gaelic prayer. This cut alone makes having this album a must. The beautiful guitar work intertwined with Maire and her son's words are captivating.

From the church hymn feel of "i lathair De (In God's Presence)" to the balladry of "My Life," Maire Brennan pours us a cup filled with the richness of her feeling for life and the earth and urges us to drink deep thereof.

Let Maire "Whisper To The Wild Water" of your soul and bestow an inner calm with her voice and music.
