Well here it is!!! You see them all the time!!! Rap compilations that claim to be the best. Finally, one of them has stepped up to the plate. "The Best of Rap City" is without a doubt one of the most comprehensive rap collections for 1999.

This CD contains cuts from Juvenile, Noreaga, Ghetto Mafia, Foxy Brown and a whole bunch of others. In fact every major hit from this year is on this compilation. Who can forget the chants of "What what what what what. . ." from Noreaga's "Superthug," or the choir like chorus of "I ya ya ya ya ya ya" from "Who Dat" by JT Money featuring Sole. The CD also contains the unforgettable debut from Eminem "My Name Is...Slim Shady," which blew up all over the radio. This CD has the album versions of all the songs, so if you only know the radio version of "My Name Is. . ." you are in for a treat. You can also check out "Nas Is Like" by Nas, "Tell Me (Remix)" by Beenie Man and Angie Martinez, and "Hot Spot" by Foxy Brown.

The high point of this whole CD comes from one of my favorite songs of the year "Da Art of Storytelling (Pt. 1)" by Outkast and Slick Rick. What can you say about this pairing? Outkast is one of the most socially conscious rappers and Slick Rick always speaks the truth with his flow. So when you put these two together, you get the most lethal injection of the true power of rap in today's society. Also, seeing Slick Rick make his return to the music world after some time touches that soft spot in my heart.

So, if you are looking for the one true collection to sum up what rap was in 1999, "The Best of Rap City" is for you. If you are new to the world of rap and want to really get a full understanding of the music, "The Best of Rap City" is for you. Or, if you just want to hear some great music with some really interesting vocal flows, "The Best of Rap City" is DEFINITELY FOR YOU!!!!!!
