First thought upon hearing the opening surge of "Embrace Me" is that at long last Heart's finally made their historic comeback! Shortly thereafter it's clear that Lullacry's resemblance to Heart, while comparable, turns the power up just a tad more and true to their word, this is "Heavy Rock so play it loud!"

Coincidental with female vocalist's Tanya's entrance into the band, Lullacry, Finnish and formerly darker, "coarser" as their name once suggested, took more to the melody, tapped into the emotional vein and what we are thus witnessing is a fine portrayal of melody-induced Hard Rock with the prime musicianship and riffed up rhythms we've come to expect by the many quality Goth-winged performers. And while there'll be no confusing Lullacry with the likes of a Lacuna Coil or operatically inclined Theater of Tragedy types, an accurate comparison to Holland's "The Gathering" or on the more propulsive side, Synergy.

Tanya's savage yet soothing voice soars high above the median on the driven "Embrace Me," the seductive strains of "Be My God" and the subtler shades of "Into Your Heart."  And now that it's had a chance to sink in, I retract part of my previous statement of comparative likeness -- she does in fact sound exactly like Christina from Lacuna Coil, but it's the music here that's much more forward with complementary keyboards for color, rather than full backdrop.

This is a very "Metal" album in the traditional sense-heavy dual guitar work and harmony, strong beats -- a Gothic beauty and thunderous beast that works about as well as anything you've heard from their likeness before them.  Admittedly there's the sometimes too formulaic approach lent to predictability -- I mean it'll take maybe four or five tracks, but you'll be mouthing the chorus before they've even gotten to it yet…

There's no denying the Finns their right to darkness, only here they've managed to rein in a shining bright light that should help Lullacry extend further from the start without expending their integrity as so many other enlightened minds before them.
