vol 4, num 11

Karmic Jera -- interesting moniker this one -- how about replacing the Karmic with Kosmic? Well just a thought, nothing wrong with Karmic... just that I don't know what it means.  I guess I ain't up on my Middle Eastern lingo these days. But the "Cosmic" fits 'cause these guys are doing the Zombie thing -- Astro-creeps and other assorted sci-fi uprisings -- besides their title and in a big way.

Blasting off and bound for deep space, the tunes are lo-fi and groovy, supersonically structured and occupants of a nu-breed of modern warfare... a metallic subterfuge laced with static undercurrents... an occasional glance toward the big "X" marking the spot, usually reserved and occupied by many.

These guys were the happy recipients of Kerrang Magazine's "Win a Record Deal" competition and whaddya know, they won it -- impressive indeed considering the thousands of entrants involved.

KJ embrace technology without submerging in it to the point where they arise wrinkled and pale -- the riffs are raw and twisted, the songs faithful to the Nu-Metal style, mixing in plenty o' modernity, industrialized aggro-intent with a bit of the Reznor polish.  But mostly we're crossing bones with Rob Zombie and his PM5K brethren for an abrasive, sometimes addictive and melodious journey into a cyber world of strange frequencies and Goth oddities.
