The Atlanta-based quartet hits hard and often on their initial release "1000 Yard Stare." Avoiding cliché and taking a workman-like approach that's seldom seen these days, their songs possess a real blood and guts feel to them while doing well to face away from redundancy. "Belief System" and "Dressed In Light" are a formidable one-two punch to start the album before the title track mellows things out, and like the dazed and distant look it was named from applies this principle introspectively, teetering on the brink of manic depression and hope, all in four minutes...one of the best.

In between, "Hell," "Tattooed Bruise" and "Standby" are reason enough to scrap your old Candlebox discs and start a new section for these guys. Be sure to stick around to the end where at some point, I believe, your player will skim all the way up to about song 80, for the gritty version of the cult favorite from Wall of Voodoo, "Mexican Radio."

Double Drive's lyrics are expressive, built around melodic vocal harmonies and sudden guitar punch where the songs range from explosively intense to lightly contemplative, but all based upon a solid rock foundation!
