"MC Ren" is "Ruthless For Life," presenting a hardcore style represented by the graveyard background on the insert. The title track sets the tone as "The signs continue before your eyes/ The signs continue/ For it's do or die!" The lyrics are satirical, describing the cycle of prejudice, the depths of hate and hypocritical claims to fame. "MC Ren" is able to shape the hate, and form lyrics, prescribing "audible dope" for his listeners.

"Who The Fuck" is upbeat and danceable. Street lyrics are hyped, and send a message about finding respectable representation, also found in "Must Be High." "Niggas saying they're selling 1000 kilos/ And killing 100 niggas/ And ballin' 100 bitches/ And nobody can touch them." Ren brings reality to songs like someone is "Coming After You," featuring "Ice Cube." Each song on the album seems to have an eerie sound to it, but with the mellow tone, it's a smokin' flavor. "Eac" is a representation of a piece of life, and as Ren says, "No one gets a free ride just because/ Respect is earned, not just given/ No one gets close/ Everyone wants a piece without having to walk the walk." Ren is a homegrown Compton man with the lyrics to prove it.

"So Watcha Want," featuring "Snoop Dog" and "RBX," is a heavy hitter,
with a funky beat and groove, that'll make you nod your head, lay back with the gin and juice, and ride 'til the sun comes up. "Shot Caller," with "Big Roce" and "Tha Chill" is another rythmic street jam.

MC Ren has a couple thumpin' tracks with "Ruthless For Life" and "So
Watcha Want," but didn't seem to get over the hump. Executive producer Tomica Wright, and "MC Ren," have more work to do. The tracks use many of the same beats and rhythms, although a few have their own distinct sound, but the stories don't change. "MC Ren" is hard, but not hard enough to separate himself from the other players.
