Now, THIS I like!

Smooth, sensual singing, sexy harmonizing and a foursome of hot looking soul brothas, ready to make a sistah forget her daily troubles. Light some candles, pour some wine and put this disc on your player. Public Announcement definitely has the answer to whatever ails ya.

The first thing to grab you are the slick beats that sneak up on you and make you wanna jump on the dance floor. The opening/title track, “Don’t Hold Back”, almost sounds like Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious”, presented from a man’s point of view. And, just try not to bounce to the pulsating beats of the second cut, “Long, Long Summer (We Can)”. However, the best this disc has to offer comes at you from a completely different tip entirely.

“Man Ain’t Supposed To Cry” is the kind of heart-wrenching ballad that hits the spot (and I do mean “hits THE spot”). Emotive and silky, this revealing song is right on the money. Followed up by the equally seductive “Slow Dance”, which asks the question ‘why don’t we slow dance no more?” Where is the love? What happened to the slow grind and the old school body groove in dark basements…..? This one is enrapturing and takes you back, even if you’ve never been before.

“John Doe” and “When I See You” continue the pattern of heatseeking love songs, bringing back memories of old Motown crooners, and groups like the Chi-lites and the Stylistics, while simultaneously re-affirming the existence of today’s balladeers (Ideal, 112, Ginuwine and Maxwell).

With real music and real emotion, Public Announcement calls for a return to real soul music, the kind that gets you down deep. They set the mood for love and don’t let you hold back, no matter how hard you try to resist. This is panty-melting music and then some! Oh, yeah!
