Blossom, Bubble and Buttercup, in action and now completely in your face, as they continue to fight the forces of evil. Girl power's never been quite this much fun before, eh? Telling the story as it unfolds on the successful USA network's cartoon series, the soundtrack features many of the best of yesterday and today's pop and alternative artists contributing their own original music specifically for the girls' latest musical adventure.

Opening with the daunting "Powerpuff Girls" theme, an early '80s fixture (maybe you've heard 'em), Devo does their off-center "Go Monkey Go" which in the finest Speed Racer tradition will have you bobbing your head side to side, jumping for joy. Yes, we're talking upbeat and happy!

"Pray For The Girls" is contributed by Frank Black, which mixes spunky juvenile antics with heavy rock guitar and mimic-like vocals, finally leaving off with the girls receiving the call for action. Then "Signal In The Sky (Let's Go)" by the La La girls (better known as The Apples) in Stereo, doing a very sickening '70s style of beat pop! But again, we're following the theme here that goes with the series - and don't fret if you don't follow the story, neither do I, but you can bet after this, I'll be glued to my set to catch their new weekly adventures!

I'd compare this as being a slightly cleaner version of last year's South Park Christmas soundtrack which in all its sarcastic cynicism, was a real laugh and a half. Aside from a few of the real cornball tracks catering obviously to those of the more youthful viewing audience, there's plenty of quality music to discover for the older "kids." Wait a minute, what am I saying? I don't think I've heard this much new wave since Missing Persons actually broke big.

Remember Shonen Knife? They do a cutesy track for "Buttercup (I'm A Super Girl)" and again I have this urge to do the freak out dance. The only drag here is that we don't have any contributions from The Aquabats. I mean what's going on here?

This collection not only features some of the latest music from your favorite artists, but also special guest appearances from our heroes themselves! Now what more could you ask for? Once again you may rest easy good people of Townsville, these pint-sized crime-fighting kindergardners are ready to answer the call.
