And in the beginning there was "Silence. . ." A terrific opening sequence led by a gentle piano intro that paves the way for what turns into a masterpiece of progressive, precision/melodic metal, delivered in classically wrapped packaging, compliments of "Ivory Tower" and "Beyond the Stars." There's an almost Savatage-like quality happening here, combined with the majesty of a Dream Theater, with the soaring yet serene vocal prowess of Andre Fischer, there are the makings for some far-reaching accomplishments.

Mild yet turbulent, all at once aggressive and progressive, marvel at the dawn of this new talent as it eclipses the night sky on an interstellar voyage out beyond the stars. Considered more direct and stronger than their previous self-titled debut from '98, okay, "Beyond The Stars" does possess a firm grip if not on reality necessarily, on a diverse and defining musical component that symbolizes the true nature of what are altogether inspiring moments that transcend the boundaries of a direct route. In the end they arrive at their final destination well enough, but the course they take to get there is one of a circuitous and daring path.

Instrumentally advanced, confidently written, songs like "Secret In Me" capture the magnificence and majesty of the finer elements drawn from heavy music in recent years and combine stunning new arrangements that altogether catapult the listener straight into the next century with an explosive double-bass thrust. The equally imposing "Foreboding" begins in much the same manner, but within all its eleven plus minutes, it's like taking part in a fantastic overnight journey through the universe. Here the work of the keyboards really lend to the overall grace that prevails throughout, and among the strongest backing components to reinforce that trust. "Hold on to your dreams. . ." in the aftermath of a love gone inevitably bad, there's a strength of will, a true character within, that stands alone when all else fails. Here we are only a few songs in and already I'm spent!

Hailing from Germany, "Ivory Tower's" talents are valiant as well as varied, but the true essence of what they've produced here rivals, if not surpasses, many of their previously established peers. It's like all of the best features of living your favorite dream. The excitement, the wonder, the completeness you feel, all without the necessity of sleep!
