Fuzzy layers living up to the implied sonics of their name, Distortion Felix
offer buzzed out zones of pop-inspired indie-rock with breathy whispers of
vocals wafting across the offerings. A small vibe of jangly noise pushes the
title track into the slow dive of guitar crash of chorus. Distortion Felix
can craft a good deal of sweetness within their fuzz and it's that charm of
sweet ugly that holds their creation up for appreciation. By the third song
I had to check who produced this fuzz-fest. Steve Albini. If the name is
familiar, you can guess the edgy value of sound that is captured. "Red Lips"
is mostly a growling roll of some blown out cabinet with a snare snap rhythm
punching holes through it. Nothing more, nothing less. Interesting.
There's a certain low-fi mentality in effect (mostly in the no hassle vocal
production, nods to Sonic Youth and Eric's Trip types). A couple of softer
moments enveloped by a landslide of fuzz. Expect noise in a pleasant package.
