About three notes in and I'm thinking Social Distortion. Or was it The Ramones? I think maybe a combination of both. You got the heady Ramones-like three chord bite with Mike Ness singing over 'em... a kinder, gentler Ness we may assume... but then again, they might be throwing me completely off and this could be the second coming of Elvis Costello!

Well now that the lame comparisons are outta the way, here we have MXPX and their new nine track EP -- one that's fast, catchy and fairly entertaining. Definitely "Warped" material, not even considering they already been there but their style is very now, very melodic and So-Cal right to the bright skies and sandy beach-like harmonies. This is on the effervescent side of the pipeline to be sure, but these guys have their moments where they lower their heads, stamp the pedal and tear it completely loose -- "Letting Go," Time Will Tell," "Talk of the Town," and the dark side of The Ramones in their most decadently wicked mood, but mostly we're talking Punk-like show tunes with a clean cut edge and middle class melodrama.
