Artist Minus
Title Jesus Christ Bobby
Label Victory Records
Reviewer Richard Proplesch
Rating
Tainted as one of Iceland’s harshest noisecore outfits, Minus have begun filtering in a few progressive tangents to further their ruthless sonic assault. Due to their brusque intensity, however, those components remotely arty or cerebral are subject to being ripped to shreds like everything else in their path. While Minus quote from all the grand hedonists (Birthday Party, Godflesh, and on down), and conjure a few of their own pranks (the piercing electronic squeals on “Mislo” are immediate ear death), anticipating the band to break from its severe form rarely occurs. Only the acoustic section in “Arctic Exhibition” is a good opportunity to emerge from the wreckage and head for cover. Even the black metal doom mongers would find this disturbing. Definitely, not for beginners.
