Who cares about their music? I'm still in awe of the fact that there's
actually a word for the act of throwing someone through a window! And
true to their name, all in their ripe teens this crew by the way, but
shocking what kids learn in school today, eh?
"One Inch God's" their
debut and the first parallel I draw is to the likes of Kittie, the
all-girl Canadian fire-power that took the heavy Rock world by... its
balls basically and specifically here, led by the vocal urgency of Gen
Tasker, a spice girl look-alike incidentally (don't know which one but
the young looking blondie, whatever her name is-Emma, I think) but that's
where the comparison ends.
Coming straight at ya from all angles,
"Stitch" opens things up -- ironically I suppose, and chugs not so merrily
along with an agitated likeness that only subsides briefly during a
catchy chorus that I honestly didn't expect from the brutal pounding
from whence it came.
Listeners will be quick to point to Hole for other
comparisons and while I won't argue that... I guess I can't dispute it
either, they're pretty dead on -- at least before Hole became this titanic
fan-friendly grunge machine media darling.
Defenestration's got a lot of
ground to cover musically where the repetitive nature tends to gnaw at
yer nerve fibers after a while, but for overall grind-appeal, fit well
within range for what's been all the rage up to now -- and "rage" being the
key word in most cases.
The tunes chug along angrily, stomping,
spitting, yet at times repentant in their unrestrained and abusive
tactics. But it's damn hard to back away from that soulful beckoning that
when she sings, has this alluring Joan Jett-like presence to soothe the
savage beat that wails away in the distance.
