"Gus Gus" are quite a little adventure.
It's not everyday that you come across a nine-piece Icelandic
art/film/music group, is it? (Maybe "Gus Gus" and "Wu-Tang"
are in competition for most members in a group.) 1997's "Polydistortion"
on 4AD introduced "Gus Gus" to much acclaim in the
music press, especially for their stellar live shows, incorporating
the band's own films and intense energy on stage. "This
Is Normal" captures just that. A bit more energized and
intense, but no less dark and mysterious than "Polydistortion,"
the new album finds "Gus Gus" delving into more musical
territory. The opening track and first single, "Ladyshave,"
kicks off with quirky organ, and bursts into a pure pop gem with
super-slick soulful vocals from member Daniel. If you're into
foreign Pop, check out "Gus Gus." |
