"The Rentals" are Matt Sharp (from "Weezer") on vocals, Rod Cervera on electric and acoustic guitars, Jim Richards with the moog and arp synthesizers, and Kevin March with the drums. Petra Haden still sings, but doesn't play the violin on this CD.

"The Rentals" is a peculiar concoction of modern rock with some classic rock touches. It also has a LOT of influence from modern Spanish Rock. This is of course explained by them living for some time in Spain, but "Seven More Minutes" has a bit more "Hombres G" and "Mecano" than I would have expected. Which is a good thing, since Spanish Rock is a very refined variant that deserves to receive more exposure outside of Europe.

Since I did not listen to their first CD, I am not going to cry my heart out pointing out insignificant changes from either their debut album or from whatever work Matt did for "Wheezer." The moogs, when not abused, can give music a wonderful sound, something that is exploited, yet not abused, on many of the tracks in "Seven More Minutes."

My favorite has to be "Barcelona," which reminds me of about a dozen different songs by "Hombres G." The rest of the songs are pretty good, and the one I hate out of the bunch is "Getting By," because it sounds completely out of character with the rest of the record. I am partial to "Big Daddy C." because it follows more or less the same lines as "Getting By," but this time along a heavier and slower line. And Petra. What a sweet voice. If you never heard her before, you will fall for her.
