Now that I've just realized that this band
is Canadian, they've just reminded me of another Canadian band
with the same style, "Moist". What a touring combo
that would be! So what's "Finger Eleven" supposed to
mean. the eleventh finger? That'd be kind of freaky.
The disc cover's got a little sticker on
the front saying that it includes "Quicksand," but
that's not the best song on the album. The next one, "Tip"
is. An obvious choice for a single I would think. Finger Eleven
is pretty heavy by today's commercial radio standards but not
atypical of hard rock but rather a hard- alternative style. They've
got everything today's hip music is recognized for-lowly tuned
guitar rhythms, break-beats in mid-song, and an incessant whining
from the lead singer! Modern sampling takes a back seat for the
most part but there'll be times while you're listening that you'll
be tempted to think of "Stabbing Westward" especially
during those slow openings like on "Awake and Dreaming"
then later building to an ear-shattering crescendo.
I lost a little interest as we approached
the sixth or seventh tracks as repetition seemed to set in and
I swore I heard the same things before a song or two earlier.
After a while the "Ooh we oohs" begin to take have
a negative effect on me as well, but aside from that, this is
a very listenable new band that's got the formula for success |
