"Take charge of the way you are perceived, or risk becoming trapped in someone else's interpretation of who you are. Choose a destiny, or one will be chosen for you!" says "Big Rude Jake," founder and lead singer of the rockabilly, rhythm and blues swing band. One thing is for sure, no one is choosing any destiny for Jake.

Starting out in Toronto, Canada nine years ago, Jake found the Canadian music industry unresponsive to his style of music. Accused of being too jazzy, he packed up and moved to NYC in 1997. After toughing it out for a year, dealing with band mates dropping out and money issues, Jake was signed to Roadrunner Records. Jake truly lives by his make your own destiny attitude.

Including 2 spoken word pieces, "East Side Jive" and "Andy's Requiem," as well as the "Big Rude Jake" greasy slick and bluesy smooth brand of sound, Jake's debut is a fantastic first effort. Placing the band in a category unattainable for most new artists these days, Jake draws upon the talent of a veteran with the rawness and sneer of a new punk act.

Tracks to check out include "Queer For Cat," an upbeat, jumping swing tune, "Speak Easy," a more mellow bluesy piece. and "Dinner With The Devil," a tongue-in-cheek rag tune drawing on ragtime stylings.

All in all, "Big Rude Jake" is a great record with the unique style of a G. Love and Special Sauce, and the catchy strength of a Brian Setzer or Cherry Poppin' Daddies. One thing is for sure, there is nothing like Jake in your collection. This one is a must add.
