Ah yes, old Cool Hand himself couldn't have said it better… in fact maybe he did, didn't he? The latest serving of down home country "badness" comes at ya pipin' hot in the form of the Reverend's sixth album "Spend a Night in the Box." Do we want to take him literally on this? The good Reverend who has already preached his knee-slapping sermon to thousands of swarming masses, hits home with the new follow up to the "Holy Roller" greatest hits of a year ago! "Spend a Night…" should be the first of several -- releases that is, not nights necessarily… but maybe - -for their new label and features a back to basics approach with the aid of Butthole Surfer's guitarist Paul Leary doing the button pushing and knob twisting, or nipple twisting if we're to take the 'Surfers at face value! Swing and sway to the rockabilly rhythms of the title track, do the "Boogie Woogie" in a big way before delving into some restful slumber on the pleasant country "Sleeper Coach Drive." But don't relax for too long, there's simply no time for it! The Texan trio's got a blistering knack for stirring things up as exemplified on their hard charging run in with the Old no.7, on the Jerry Lee inspired "Sue Jack Daniels" while settling into a self-indulgent swoon for drowning in sin on "Hand it to Me."

The Reverend's in no condition to perform civic duties at the pulpit at the moment but, man, they still got that gritty guitar slide down to a rough science. They'll warm up those cold weather blahs and get that party in your head pumpin' till early morning! "Hurts your Daddy Bad" features a wealth of reverb and some of the antsiest guitar and bass picking you'll ever stomp your feet to! The country-ish follow up, "The Bedroom Again," typifies the toned down mood that allows listeners to regroup and catch their breath… just a second… okay, so this one's a little on the corny side, what, are we getting serious here? Right, back to the bump and grind we go again, here comes the "King," and man that strum just never gets old!

Now that the weather's becoming a little more cruiser friendly, this new album comes along at just the right time, so get ready to do some well spent time in the box and then hit the ground running with this searin' new release!
