This album is a CD reissue of a 1993 rerelease
that is Earl's most romantic album. Originally recorded in 1979-80
it includes some of the most popular love songs of the time.
While there are no surprises, Earl's acoustic guitar is well
suited to these ballads that have entertained millions for years.
Earl is accompanied by a studio orchestra, whose strings and
woodwind play lend much to the magic.
Some of the most familiar songs include,
"Smoke Gets InYour Eyes," "Laura" and "Mona
Lisa." Henry Mancini's "Two For The Road" is so
soft it forces you to listen for each note. There is one original
Klugh tune on the album, "Mirabella," a Latin-tinged
number that has a bit more heart, which is usually the case when
playing your own music.
Several songs, like "Lisbon Antiqua,"
are not recognizable until you hear them and your memory goes,
"I've heard that before. Many times. I just never knew the
name." While most people will probably pick "Mona Lisa"
or "Smoke Get In Your Eyes" as their favorite, mine
is "A Time For Love" - which it will be when you play
this music late at night. A welcome serenade from a guitarist
with the soul of a lover. |
