When my editor sent me "Pimpin" I thought "Why me?" I like rap, but only in English. I have heard it many times in other languages, German and Spanish in particular, and rap just does not sound right in other languages. Other music has the same problem (Country & Western comes to mind). Still, out of the lot for this month, "Pimpin" is my hands-down favorite. Oh yes.

"Pimpin" is a hybrid English-Spanish rap album. It is sort of Hip-Hop with a little Latin flavor. Just a little, thank you, and it never feels overdone. They did it just right. The whole album rocks. Well, 11 out of the 12 songs (they can keep "Hold Up," I don't like people using the n-word just to sound cool). The other 11 songs are awesome. "La Fiesta" sounds like hit material. "Feel the Bass" is sedated and understated, but helps showcase a little bit of the musical influences behind "D.J.Jaz."

He even went as far as doing a terrible sample of "Kiki Ri Bu." Funny thing is that I can't remember a Latin artist that has NOT recorded a cover of "KiKi Ri Bu." The song is a classic. It's like trying to find a bar band that hasn't played "Born to be Wild" or something like that. The song is pretty good, and it degenerates into a great salsa frenzy.

Still, the jewel of the album is the Jerry Springer song. Yes, you read it right: Jerry Springer. Jerry should license the song and use it for the guest fights. I love it! Heck, I don't know who to recommend this album, but I know that it is really good. Half of the time I thought I was listening to "Sir Mix a Lot" so that might give you an idea if you are a candidate. And the Jerry song is a keeper :-)
