Think that this little spitfire is only capable of peppy, fun pap (but very well constructed pap, thank you.) like the current hit/title cut of her debut CD?

Think again.

When she opens her mouth to belt out the earthy "Some People Fall, Some People Fly" and the almost modern-folky "I Don't Understand" you will realize this isn't some teenybopper that along with Jennifer Day are being marketed presumably as country's answers to Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson.

This is a little lady with an already SHOCKINGLY mature delivery, vocal presence and artistry that makes one shudder when one realizes where she could be in twenty years if she's already kicking this much ass now when she may not be old enough to get into a R rated movie unaccompanied.

Even her risky torch song works. "I'm Waiting for You" has more depth in it than 1000 Leann Rimes perfect-but-soulless renditions of songs of longing for love. She seamlessly rocks back to her irresistible teenybopper fun style in "Ain't No Ordinary Love" and "You Wanna WHAT?" ( which Ms. Elliott also CO-wrote) and the stunning, deep and Linda Ronstadt-like final cut, "Some Say I Am Running," has blockbuster written all over it.

So why the missing 1/2 star If this album is pretty damn perfect? Well, look at the title of this genre, folks. I am not sure if there is really a damn thing about this album that is COUNTRY at all. And while this great stuff isn't going to add to any of the glop on country radio, it is still a million miles away from Tammy Wynette, and in country's shaky identity crisis right now, that bothers me a tad.

But that notwithstanding, this is killer music from a killer little lady whose product already sounds like it's coming from a pro. More power to her, regardless of what style this music ACTUALLY is.
