Adrenaline rushes through pumped up muscles, players aggressively storm the field, hormones rage. Football is jam-packed with testosterone, and so is the "Varsity Blues" soundtrack, which is a movie devoted to the obsession of small town high school football.

There are no female vocalists on this CD, just the boys playing with their electric guitars, pounding their drums and singing full force. The closest you get to chick music on this CD is the name of the last group on the soundtrack, "Caroline's Spine," and believe me, the ultra-deep throaty voice of the singer is no woman's voice.

"Varsity Blues" starts out heavy and loud with the first track, "Fly," by "Loudmouth." It's loud, rumbling, and slightly ominous. You can almost see the jocks lining up on the field ready to bum rush the opposing team. With lines like, "the sun is going to shine today and the rain is going to go away" no one would give this group credit for original lyrics, but the pumped up music is perfect to open up this boisterous boy-filled soundtrack.

Mostly hard rock, with a little punk here and there, the VB soundtrack has some diversity, despite being completely male driven. You have "Green Day's" fast-paced "Nice Guys Finish Last" to lighten heavier songs by "Days Of The New" and "Monster Magnet." There's even classic "Van Halen." Remember that strip-club classroom song, "Hot For Teacher?" This song, and the scene of the movie where it's played, is made for every adolescent boy who ever had a crush on his teacher.

Some other notable songs on the soundtrack are the "Foo Fighters" well-known hit, "My Hero," and Collective Soul's "Run." If you've never heard of "Simon Says," you won't forget them after you hear "Ship Jumper," one of the best songs on the album. "Black Lab's" "Black Eye" is another one you'll want to turn up, heavy with guitar and drums. This is a soundtrack with something for everyone, from alternative to hard-core rock fans, as long as they like their music loud and male.
