And now for a different kind of Blues. Instead of the electric Blues of Stevie Ray, Indigenous and others, we get to taste a bit of some of the best acoustical Blues out there. "Every Road I Take…" is a compilation of unplugged songs from thirteen artists, including R.L. Burnside, Sue Foley, Dr. John, and yes, Rory Block.

This collection is refreshing for those of us that have been listening to too many distorted guitars and speaker busting bass lines lately. This kind of recording has fascinated me for years, since I love when you can almost hear the pick scratching the strings on a guitar. I even cheered when the original "Unplugged" specials started popping left and right, and my "Eric Clapton Unplugged" CD has the scars to prove it.

Every one of the tracks on this CD are excellent. I am not going to pick out many favorites, since I like the whole thing, but I have to admit that I kept coming back for seconds of Rory Block and Sue Foley. Finding a Rory Block (see review on her "Confessions Of A Blues Singer" in the 1/99 Issue) track was a treat, since I am still hating myself for missing her concert here in my neck of the woods.

What else to look for? Well, Steve James' "Stack Lee Blues," and John Hammond's "Riding In The Moonlight," are excellent. Still, I have to repeat that the whole album is filled with great acoustic songs.

This is a great find. If you are a Blues fan then run and get it. You will be very pleased. If you're just curious then go for it. You will enjoy it as well.
