Artist: Paul Taylor
Album: "Pleasure Seeker"
Label: Countdown/ULG

Rating:
Sultry, lush, and evocative are just a few of the words to describe the music on this album. I first heard Paul play on "Keiko Matsui's," "Dreamwalk," where he lent a welcome touch. This album is full of the kind of music you want to sit back and bask in. All ten tracks are over four minutes long, giving him plenty of time to massage the melody with his talented sax. "Deeper" with vocals by "Shelina Wade" is one great "play in the dark" song. The only fault is that he, alone, carries the melody on most of the songs, not allowing any of his accompanying instruments to join him, which could have made this an even better album.

Artist: Estevan Johnson
Album: "Who's Gonna Dry My Tears"
Label: Roadrunner Records

Estevan Johnson's, "Who's Gonna Dry My Tears," is a well written, sad song about love, separation and seeking your own path. Estevan seems to be near the brim of success with his energy level and passion. The pitch of his voice seems to take strength away from the song, but his backup supports him and maintains the quality of the lyrics. The strong lyrics with powerful backup vocals blend well with Estevan's energy. Estevan is definitely eager to please the women, and with his enthusiasm and passion, not too many women will be defied.

Album: "Transistor"
Label: Capricorn

This band continues to produce hits off "Transistor," their latest album, which is the equivalent of a double CD squeezed into one. Using a variety of styles from reggae to hip hop, wrapped around compelling lyrics, there is plenty to keep your ears occupied and your feet moving. From the punk strains of "Galaxy" to the incisive lyrics of "Electricity" each song is like another surprise package just urging you to open it. One of the most positive CD's to come out, at a time when other bands are feasting on negativity, it touches a nerve but doesn't abrade it.
