If I live to be a hundred years old I'll
still never figure out what this band's name is supposed to mean
or how it was arrived at - hallucinogens? To me, any band with
a name as quirky as "Toad The Wet Sprocket" has got
to have a sound musical foundation to back it up if there's to
be any legitimacy to the idea of reaching the mainstream. "Toad.
. ." possessed all of that and more. First entering the
airwaves over ten years ago, while landing several top 40 hits
and album sales in the millions worldwide, they were, and will
continue to be, a major impact on the pop music agenda for many
years to come.
Sadly, this new retrospective closes the
book on a storied career, but will bring back fond memories for
their expansive base of fans and offer a few new tidbits to gloss
over in the process. Covering Toad's six critically acclaimed
albums, all represented here in their original, and some remixed,
forms take a pleasant trip down memory lane or "walk"
down it "on the ocean" as the case may be (song number
8).
Picked and chosen from their greatest hits
and personal favorites, among them one of their biggest hits,
the top ten charting "All I Want" and "Something's
Always Wrong" appear as remixed versions as well as the
originals of "Good Intentions" and, of course, "Walk
On The Ocean." Two previously unreleased tracks appear as
the outer lying borders of the sixteen song collection in the
form of a new version of "P.S.," released as the first
single and only previously available in rare demo form, and "Silo
Lullaby," which puts a capper on this symbol of the successful
and respectable career of one "Toad The Wet Sprocket." |
