| The bad news is that there are indeed 5 sort-of "generic" Reba Songs on this stunning, if uneven, album. However the fact that the other 7 are so heartstopping and beautiful at times means this album definitely deserves a big four stars. The opening, and title, cut is a fun and kicky barnburning paean to love, which recalls the verve of Reba's recent smash "I'd Rather Ride Around With You." " What Do You Say" is Reba's current chart-topping smash, and is an incredibly crafted song about very different kinds of circumstances that might render one speechless. "Roses" is one of those amazingly few, staggering NEW, country songs that still define what the genre is all about - stroytelling. A lady's entire life and a man's entire regret are expressed beautifully in this song of how roses in different situations can mean different things. "She Wasn't Good Enough For Him" is mournful and powerful, poignant with a great whining guitar background lick underlining the tune's powerful sense of regret. "Nobody Dies Of A Broken Heart" is silky and downright mesmerizing. "Back Before The War" is a stunningly written song about the aftermath of divorce. Finally, "Where You End And I Begin" saves itself from being too treacly with its powerful and interestingly put together chorus. It's not that the rest of the CD is BAD, it's just that the songs don't measure up to these seven gems. But, no worries, no fan of Reba's will be disappointed by this more-than-half blockbuster disc at all. |
