"Hard Core Logo: The Movie" -
a darkly humorous feature film that follows a legendary, defunct
Vancouver punk band (Hard Core Logo) as it reunites for a tour
of Western Canada. When "Hard Core Logo's" aging mentor,
Bucky Haight, is shot in the leg in Saskatchewan, lead singer
Joe Dick convinces former band mates Billy Tallent, John Oxenberger
and Pipefitter to put aside their differences and reunite for
a benefit concert in Bucky's honor. The gig proves successful,
leading to a "Hard Core Logo" reunion tour. Onstage,
the Hard Cores are brilliant, but behind the scenes, old tensions
erupt and the band members are forced to face the unpleasant
fact that they can neither relive, nor alter, the past.
"Hard Core Logo: The Sound Track"
- OK, so the movie sounds pretty good, but I have to say that
the sound track kicks ass. I mean, for a fictional punk band
and all, I expected some half baked "Sex Pistols" knock
off. But "Hard Core Logo" could most definitely make
it on the current punk scene. Obviously influenced by the "Ramones"
and "Rancid," this sound track finds the "band"
with 12 pretty solid punk tracks.
"Who The Hell You think You Are,"
"Something's Gonna Die Tonight" and "One Foot
In the Gutter," stand out as the best tracks on the disc,
but the record as a whole is definitely worth a listen. Guest
appearances on the disc include "Teenage Head" on "Bonerack,"
"The Ramones" on "Touring," and "Chris
Spedding" on "Wild Wild Women."
Featuring Hugh Dillon, who plays Joe Dick
in the film, and sings for the platinum Canadian act "The
Headstones," fronts "Swamp Baby," the fictional
band the film is about. Other members include Randall Bergs (guitar),
Mark Bosa (guitar), Steve Cowal (back up vocals), Rick Sentence
(bass) and Jim Mattachione (drums).
Directed by Bruce McDonald, "Hard
Core Logo" has won a number of awards, including Best Screenplay
at the Vancouver Film Festival. |
