"My Super Hero" weighs in with their first effort, "Solid State 14," adding to the long line of pop/punk and ska bands to come down the pipe after "Green Day" made pop/punk cool. Following bands like "MxPx," "Wasted Time" and "Spring Heeled Jack USA," "My Super Hero" lunges forward with snappy, happy, power pop and punk.

Harmonies, harmonies, harmonies. That is the order of the day on the pop/punk scene, and "My Super Hero" most certainly delivers. Staying with the more melodic side of the spectrum, this record is extremely easy to digest. Even distortion is slightly lacking on this disc, making for an extremely clean and slick, poppy sound. Where "My Super Hero" falls short is the hook. The key element to any pop song, be it pop/punk or otherwise, is a catchy chorus. Each track here comes off slightly generic, and the record as a whole does not grab the listener. However, "Solid State 14" does seem to promise better work in the future from "My Super Hero." They most certainly have the skills and the chops, they're just slightly lacking in the songwriting dept., and it keeps this band from being a force to be reckoned with. Tracks like "Leaving Soon," "Another Kind" and "Reggie" stand out among the list of 17, but again they fall short of the luster needed to be great songs.

In short, "My Superhero" are good but not great. My suggestion, pick up "Solid State 14" and keep an eye out for this band. That way when they reach their full potential, and everyone likes them, you can say you're cool and knew them way back when.
