"Hempilation 2" is the second installment in a series of benefit CD's used as fund raisers for the movement to legalize Marijuana in the United States. Even if I don't agree with the ultimate purpose of this CD, I must agree (and my hat is off) to their approach: Gather some of the hottest names in the musical scene, and make them send their message. Excellent!

There is a little bit of everything here, and most people are going to find at least two or three songs to their liking, no matter what their taste in music is. All the songs more or less carry a message that is pro-marijuana, which makes it more effective than the usual benefit performance, where an artist offers support just by performing. In this case, the support is not only provided by performing, but also by the songs themselves. Because of this, I'm only taking half a star from their rating because of the drug issue.

There are some gems hidden here, starting with George Clinton's "U.S. Custom Coast Guard Dope Dog" from his latest release "Dope Dog." If you haven't checked out "Dope Dog" yet, do it quick! Willie Nelson is also included, giving this CD a more country-like flavor with "Me And Paul." Dar Williams' "Greed" also sounds a bit country, with a little mix of folk. Sometimes I think that's Jewel singing. Another interesting track worth checking out is an alternate mix of "Jimmy's Chicken Shack's" "High," which sounds even edgier than the original release.
